　　玛丽安（朱莉•黛比 饰）是来自法国的摄影师，她的男朋友杰克（亚当•戈登堡 饰）是美国的室内设计师，两人在纽约生活了两年，感情逐渐趋于平淡。为了找回失落的激情，两人放下一切去欧洲度假。在享受了完美的旅行，二人感情重新苏醒之后，玛丽安决定转到巴黎看望父母，顺便领回自己的小猫，对巴黎颇有幻想的杰克欣然同意。
　　然而，种种匪夷所思的事情随之而来：玛丽安的父母作风大胆，话题百无禁忌；玛丽安的前男友们纷纷出现，一个比一个疯狂……短短两天，杰克对天堂巴黎的幻想破灭，他的美国基因无法接受这一切。最终，玛丽安和杰克不得不坐下来谈谈未来，这次谈话也许是一个艰难的开始，或者仅仅是一个无奈的结束。

　　影片由法国女导演麦温执导，法国巨星文森特·卡索搭档法国女星艾玛纽尔·贝克特和法国男星路易·加瑞尔出演，影片入围第68届法国戛纳电影节主竞赛单元。值得一提的是，文森特·卡索也有出演入围主竞赛的《故事的故事》，而艾玛纽尔·贝克特执导的影片《昂首挺胸》被选为本届电影节的开幕片 。
　　女律师汤妮（Emmanuelle Bercot饰）滑雪受伤疗养时，回忆起她曾经历过的一段刻骨铭心爱情。她爱上了迷人的餐厅经理乔治欧（Vincent Cassel饰），两人从相互吸引、陷入热恋、甜蜜闪婚到天翻地覆的疯狂毁灭…。而她的疗伤过程，也不断地与这些感情经历相互对映，让观众彷彿置身其中、感同身受，前一秒才纵情欢笑、干柴烈火，下一秒却忌恨争执、甚至大打出手。当爱情从热恋跨向婚姻，究竟该是浓郁的幸福？抑或是烦苦的羁绊？

　　It has been said that most great twentieth century novels include scenes in a hotel, a symptom of the vast uprooting that has occurred in the last century: James Ivory begins Quartet with a montage of the hotels of Montparnasse, a quiet prelude before our introduction to the violently lost souls who inhabit them.
　　Adapted from the 1928 autobiographical novel by Jean Rhys, Quartet is the story of a love quadrangle between a complicated young West Indian woman named Marya (played by Isabelle Adjani), her husband Stefan (Anthony Higgins), a manipulative English art patron named Heidler (Alan Bates), and his painter wife Lois (Maggie Smith). The film is set in the Golden Age of Paris, Hemingway's "moveable feast" of cafe culture and extravagant nightlife, glitter and literati: yet underneath is the outline of something sinister beneath the polished brasses and brasseries.
　　When Marya's husband is put in a Paris prison on charges of selling stolen art works, she is left indigent and is taken in by Heidler and his wife: the predatory Englishman (whose character Rhys bases on the novelist Ford Madox Ford) is quick to take advantage of the new living arrangement, and Marya finds herself in a stranglehold between husband and wife. Lovers alternately gravitate toward and are repelled by each other, now professing their love, now confessing their brutal indifference -- all the while keeping up appearances. The film explores the vast territory between the "nice" and the "good," between outward refinement and inner darkness: after one violent episode, Lois asks Marya not to speak of it to the Paris crowd. "Is that all you're worried about?" demands an outraged Marya. "Yes," Lois replies with icy candor, "as a matter of fact."
　　Adjani won the Best Actress award at Cannes for her performances in Quartet: her Marya is a volatile compound of French schoolgirl and scorned mistress, veering between tremulous joy and hysterical outburst. Smith shines in one of her most memorable roles: she imbues Lois with a Katherine-of-Aragon impotent rage, as humiliated as she is powerless in the face of her husband's choices. Her interactions with Bates are scenes from a marriage that has moved from disillusionment to pale acceptance.
　　Ruth Prawer Jhabvala and James Ivory's screenplay uses Rhys's novel as a foundation from which it constructs a world that is both true to the novel and distinctive in its own right, painting a society that has lost its inhibitions and inadvertently lost its soul. We are taken to mirrored cafes, then move through the looking glass: Marya, in one scene, is offered a job as a model and then finds herself in a sadomasochistic pornographer's studio. The film, as photographed by Pierre Lhomme, creates thoroughly cinematic moments that Rhy's novel could not have attempted: in one of the Ivory's most memorable scenes, a black American chanteuse (extraordinarily played by Armelia McQueen) entertains Parisian patrons with a big and brassy jazz song, neither subtle nor elegant. Ivory keeps the camera on the singer's act: there is something in her unguarded smile that makes the danger beneath Montparnasse manners seem more acute.

　　七年前，宣花（成贤娥 饰）是宪俊（金泰宇 饰）的女友。文昊（刘智太 饰）是宪俊的学弟，同时文昊又一直暗恋宣花。不久宪俊到国外留学，宣花与文昊两人开始约会，但最终也没能走到一起。
　　宪俊在七年后学成归国，并成了导演，他找到了在大学教书的文昊聚旧，这时候文昊已成家立室。叙谈之间，他们渐渐说起了往日所爱——宣花。他们都想再次见到宣花，于是两人决定一起去寻找宣花。

　　戴安（维吉妮·艾菲拉 Virginie Efira 饰）刚刚结束了一段失败的婚姻，虽然感情不顺，但戴安拥有美丽的外貌，幽默的个性，开朗的性格，所有人都相信，她一定能够遇到另一段美好的爱情，对此，戴安也做足了心里建设，自信满满。
　　某日，戴安稀里糊涂的弄丢了手机，一位名叫亚历山大（让·杜雅尔丹 Jean Dujardin 饰）的男子见到了她的手机，联系她想要将手机归还。在电话里温文尔雅非常绅士的亚历山大一下子就吸引了戴安的注意，她觉得这整件事情就仿佛一个美好爱情故事的完美开端。然而，当戴安亲眼见到亚历山大时，才发现对方的身高竟然比自己矮一大截，戴安能否接受这身高上的巨大差距呢？

　　杰克（让-马克•巴尔 Jean-Marc Barr）在希腊海边长大，虽然小时候眼看着爸爸死于一次潜水事故，却没有削减杰克对大海的热爱。当杰克的朋友恩佐（让·雷诺 Jean Reno饰）找到他，劝说他参加潜水冠军大赛时，杰克答应了，在比赛中成绩突出勇夺冠军，并且得到了乔安娜（罗姗娜•阿奎特 Rosanna Arquette饰）的爱。两人打得火热，杰克却意识到他放不下、离不开大海。
　　意外发生了。好友恩佐在潜水中不幸丧生，杰克把恩佐的尸首放入大海当中，杰克的心中非常迷乱，他觉得自己不再属于人类社会，只想潜进深海，像海豚一样陪伴大海一生。尽管传来了乔安娜怀孕的消息，杰克深情的看了看爱人，转身投入了大海的怀抱。

　　父亲离世后，来到天桥摆摊卖手表的小康（李康生）同母亲一样，虽自觉与其并无多少情感，却无法摆脱其在精神上的无处不在。因为一块可以显示出巴黎与台北时差的手表，小康结识要去巴黎的湘琪（陈湘琪 饰），自此，精神抑压的他以为同巴黎（湘琪 饰）取得了某种形式的关联，获得某种虚空的安慰。
　　当小康通过把时钟调快7小时、观看电影《四百击》等形式来表达他对湘琪暧昧的思念时，远在巴黎的湘琪也并没能从生活中找到多少积极的意义。无论同性（叶童）还是异性，她均无法从他们身上得到想要的温暖。

　　Mavie is 27 years old and has just moved to the French capital from the provinces. She dreams of a future as a writer but is plagued by doubt and uncertainty. 76-year-old misanthrope Georges runs a bookshop in Paris – or has he merely been forced to take refuge there to escape his past? These are two peculiar creatures indeed. Georges is cynical and no longer expects much from life, while Mavie is still brimming with expectation. Yet something magical happens between them, until Georges' dark secret suddenly catches up with him – and Mavie is caught up in something very different...
　　Director Elise Girard succeeds in making a dreamlike film full of surprising absurdities. It’s not just love that appears out of the blue for the two protagonists, but also some quite literal strange birds. Girard depicts love beyond the barriers of age in a way that is both unexpected and moving, romantic instead of physical, timeless instead of fashionable. The film reminds us of the multifaceted nature of love as well as how fleeting it can be, existing not yesterday or tomorrow but above all in the present.

　　落寞的青年亚历克斯（德尼·拉旺 Denis Lavant 饰）独自徘徊巴黎街头，他的女友移情别恋，不久又要去服兵役，钟爱的电影事业前景模糊。偶然机缘，亚历克斯进入一个私人聚会，并结识了美丽的女孩蜜蕊拉（蜜蕊拉·皮雷 Mireille Perrier 饰）。蜜蕊拉此前与男友伯纳情深意笃，为了爱情她甘愿奉献一切，这却让对方无法承受如此炽烈的感情，只能选择逃避。相同的境遇让他们走到一起，互诉各自的情感经历，两人的心由此更加贴近。亚历克斯和蜜蕊拉相互依偎，空气中弥漫着悲伤无望的气味……
　　本片为莱奥·卡拉克斯（Leos Carax）导演处女作，并荣获1984年戛纳电影节青年奖。

　　和大部分女大学生一样，芭芭拉（露易丝·布尔昆 Louise Bourgoin 饰）有着年轻美丽的外表和对未来无限的期望，和男友尼古拉斯（皮奥·马麦 Pio Marmaï 饰）的恋情更让她相信她正在经历的是一生中最美好的时光。一个孩子的到来将一切美好粉碎殆尽，她无法想象在心智上还是一个孩子的自己竟然要做母亲了。
　　在犹豫和期待中，芭芭拉选择了将孩子留下，没想到，孩子的出生则成为了芭芭拉的另一个噩梦。面对眼前这个毫无防备的小小生命，在为人母的艰巨责任面前，芭芭拉退却了，她怎么也弄不明白的是，成为母亲，这明明是一件幸福的事情，为什么会有那么多的悲伤和恐惧深藏其中呢？
