影片關注中國社會從文革時期到今天廣場上舞蹈的變化，追溯當下中國所流行的廣場舞實際來源於文革時期的忠字舞。三個主人公，分別是在文革時期敢於反抗並且到74歲還能倒立的周先生，到老了依然情懷不減，找到50年前文革時期他的初戀女友，並將當年分手時給她畫的畫像交給她；婚姻瀕臨破裂，並且每日照顧105歲的老父親的熊先生，70歲的他，不僅每日去廣場跳“牽手舞”，而且需要不斷更換女舞伴來尋求表面的性刺激以紓解照顧父親的心裏壓力，最後安靜送走父親；紅衛兵團團長63歲的尹女士，從她一開始對文革極左的傾向，到最後潸然淚下，反思悔恨當年的幼稚，並在她不斷地努力下，實現了人生的理想，最後到美國洛杉磯進行舞蹈演出，從而圓了她終身的夢想。他們在文革時期都跳過忠字舞，同時也是廣場舞的親身參與者。而今天他們又在為了實現自己最後的夢想而努力。本片通過廣場舞將他們串聯，將廣場上舞蹈的變化...
