The plot introduces us to a psychologist who suggests to three couples that they engage in a group session, where they will have to analyse each other without her being present. In order to do so, she has left them a number of envelopes containing instructions on the things they have to address. The method she has proposed encourages everyone to share their opinions, argue with each other and reveal their true selves. They are all public prosecutors and defence lawyers; they all interrogate one another, confess, lay themselves bare emotionally, regret the things they have said and toy with provoking the others. It’s a comedy with realistic characters and with a great sense of humour up until the final twist, which will wipe the smile off the audience’s faces because, in an instant, everything will take on a different meaning.

　　The subject of Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub’s Der Tod des Empedokles (The Death of Empedocles, 1987) is the Greek pre-Socratic philosopher Empedocles (c. 490 BC – 430 BC), who lived in the Greek colony of Agrigentum in Sicily. His theories are mentioned in several of Plato’s dialogues. He maintained that all matter is made up of four irreducible elements: water, earth, air and fire. A mystic and a poet, he is considered to be the founder of classical rhetoric. He is also thought to be the last Greek philosopher to write in verse; two fragments of his works survive: Katharmoi (Purifications) and Peri Phuseôs (On Nature). An advocate of democracy, he came into conflict with his fellow citizens of Agrigentum and, as result, was banished with his young disciple, Pausanius. When he was asked to return, he preferred to commit suicide by throwing himself into the active volcano at Mount Aetna.
　　The German writer Friedrich Hölderlin wrote two versions of Der Tod des Empedokles in 1798 and 1800, and a final third version in 1820, all three ultimately unfinished. They were conceived as five-act tragedies and all three differ in plot. According to Michael Hamburger, Hölderlin’s English-language translator,
　　the main reason why Hölderlin finished no version of the play must be that he remained too closely identified with Empedocles, at the very period in his life when his own view of the poet as philosopher, prophet and priest – and as tragic hero – was subject to perpetual crisis and re-examination.
　　Huillet-Straub’s The Death of Empedocles is based on Hölderlin’s first version (the longest of the three), whereas Black Sin is based on the third version.

　　2019, City of Madrid (Madrid, center to Spain and country's capital). Marina is a woman unable to believe in love after her father was unfaithful to her mother Lourdes when she was a child, but who works as successful wedding planner in her own company with her close friend Irene and the own Lourdes as employee. In their last job Marina meets by chance Carlos, one of the invited. Having a drink together, between the two lights the flame and they make sex in the idea that they not will meet again. When at the next day Carlos' girlfriend Alexia finds Marina's calling card in his t-shirt, Carlos is unable to say her the truth, lying Alexia to make her believe that he wants to marry. But when Carlos and Alexia meet Marina, he learns that Alexia and Marina are former school classmates and that Marina suffered bullying from Alexia. After in the wedding where Marina met Carlos a drunken Lourdes caused an accident where the bride fell and crashed against a bank of the church turning it in an Internet video viral and it menaces to ruin Marina's company, Irene forces her to accept the new assignment, moving they three to Tenerife (Canary Islands, west to Africa) to meet hotel entrepreneur Arturo, Alexia's father. However, troubles appear by everywhere: Arturo despises Carlos not considering good enough for Alexia, while Carlos, who has an architecture studio with his best friend Ben, tries to convince his future father-in-law to work as hotel designer for him; at the same time, Marina revenges Alexia with a disastrous voyage by sea and later with a bottle cork, damaging her teeth. With Marina returning temporally Madrid to repair it, Marina and Carlos feel attracted each other, knowing that it put in danger their jobs. While Carlos doubts about between Marina and Alexia, this last one returns Tenerife with Ben, looking for sure the contract and that Carlos doesn't reveal Alexia the truth. According lies and deceives accumulate and the wedding comes, Carlos feels each time more trapped by the circumstances, making sure that the wedding day be unforgettable.

The young men commit petty crimes all day begin with arms theft, and culminating with a night with three streetwalkers. After their pleasure, the boys try to cheat the hookers, but they ladies are smarter than that and have stolen their cash ahead of time. The punks then return to the city for more crimes. Exploits include the harassment of three homosexuals, and attempts to seduce some women.

When the boss' unwanted advances on the wife are refused, he taunts a lion until it nearly kills her. But the other performers assist in a unique plot for revenge. Jaque Catelain directs and stars in this film made for influential French director Marcel L'Herbier's production company. Some sources also list L'Herbier as co-director, as he is credited here. The film boasts some rapid-fire editing techniques that were decades ahead of its time.
